NEAR NORMAL SOUTH WEST MONSOON RAINFALL OCCURRED DURING 2011 AS INDICATED USING A REAL-TIME SST MODEL WITH WEEKLY UPDATES ON THIS WEBSITE: THE UNUSUAL LA-NINA TYPE CONDITION PRESENT DURING OCTOBER (STILL CONTINUING) BROUGHT EXCESSIVE RAINS OVER SOUTH EAST ASIA AND SOME PARTS OF INDIA. EFFECT OF THIS LA-NINA WAS NOT SEVERE OVER INDIA DUE TO THE COEXISTENCE AND OPPOSING CONDITIONS OF NE MONSOON OVER INDIA

The main results of a Real Tme model basd on variations of Sea Surface Temperatures (SST) measured by AQUA satellite is given below. The trend of mean SST all along showed that the monsoon of 2011 would be similar to that of 2008. The 2011 monsoon rainfall has turned out to be nearly normal. However details of rainfall and its distribution over India when available would be used for further verification of the above model. CLICKME
